If you are interested in a professional drug and alcohol testing service for your non-regulated employees, you will find USS Screening Solutions & Compliance flexible enough to accommodate your specific needs; no client or program is too large or too small.

When you choose USS Screening Solutions & Compliance you can be assured that our services comply with all state and federal requirements.

  • DOT Drug Testing For Owner Operators

Whether you own a transnational trucking company or a single truck, the first step to becoming DOT compliant is to enroll in a drug testing consortium like USS Screening Solutions & Compliance, LLC. Enrollment not only guarantees that you’ll be selected (from the pool of eligible drivers) for DOT-required random drug testing, our compliance program also directly notifies owner operators when and where they need to take a test, provides drivers with a DOT-required written drug and alcohol policy, and maintains accurate reports for the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association (FMCSA). To remain compliant with federal rules and regulations, the Department of Transportation (DOT) requires that all Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) holders be periodically tested.

Though owner operators aren’t technically hired, they still must go through the same pre employment drug testing as potential employees. USS Screening Solutions helps owner operators complete this mandatory step by providing drug testing forms, access to over 10,000 drug testing laboratories, and fast test result turnaround times.

  • Dot Drug & Alcohol Testing

To help drivers stay compliant with DOT and FMCSA rules and guidelines, USS Screening Solutions offers pre employment drug testing, post accident drug and alcohol testing, and random annual drug testing at over 10,000 locations throughout the United States.

Comprehensive DOT drug testing is a vital part of every transportation company’s DOT drug and alcohol compliance program, and all drivers or employers of drivers with a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) are required by law to follow specific drug testing procedures set by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration (FMCSA).

DOT drug testing rules govern what types of drugs drivers should be tested for, when and how often tests should be administered, what facilities can actually perform a DOT-approved drug test, the components of a trucking company’s Drug Free Workplace program, and more.

  • Random Selection Testing

To remain compliant, both transportation company employees and owner operators must be randomly selected from the consortium pool and tested for recent drug use. Enrollment in USS Screening Solutions program guarantees that drivers are randomly chosen using DOT-approved, scientifically-valid methods and immediately notified when they have been selected.

  • Drug Testing Solutions for Owner Operators

USS Screening Solutions provides clients with expert advice and service for maintaining complete compliance with DOT drug testing and alcohol testing programs, including those for owner operator transportation companies.

  • Dot Drug Consortium Enrollment

Whether you are an independent owner operator or you manage your own trucking company, enrollment in a drug testing consortium is mandatory for DOT compliance.

  • Post Accident Testing

DOT regulations requires that any owner operator involved in an accident that results in a death or moving violation citation must submit to a test for the presence of drugs and alcohol. Following an accident, every USS Screening Solutions client is provided with detailed instructions regarding DOT protocols for breath alcohol and urinalysis testing.

  • Pre Employment Drug Testing

Before operating a vehicle that requires a Commercial Driver’s License, all owner operators or employees must complete a pre employment drug test and return negative results.

  • Return-To-Duty

If a driver has previously tested positive for drugs or alcohol, he or she must first return a negative result on a “return-to-duty” drug test before resuming workplace responsibilities.

  • Random Drug Testing

To remain DOT compliant, both owner operators and employees of transportation companies must join a consortium pool and submit for random drug tests throughout the year.

  • Reasonable Suspicion

If an employer has reason to suspect an employee may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol in the workplace, the employee in question may be asked to take a drug or alcohol test.

  • WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE TEST?

Whether drug test results are positive or negative, USS Screening Solutions is careful to protect client confidentiality and results are always sent through proper channels to maintain discretion.

If tests return a positive result, our certified Medical Review Officer (MRO) will contact the employee to determine if any medical reasons may have affected the test, such as taking prescription medication; if no acceptable reason is found, the employee should be removed from performing safety-sensitive duties and management should consult the USS Screening Solutions Drug to determine the next steps.

  • Follow Up

Drivers that have successfully completed the return-to-duty process (including a negative return-to-duty test) must be tested several times over the course of the following year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who does the DOT require to be enrolled in a drug consortium pool?

The Department of Transportation requires anyone with a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) that operates a vehicle over 26,000 lbs, anyone who operates a vehicle with 16 or more passengers, or anyone transporting hazardous materials to enroll in a drug consortium pool and develop a drug testing program.

I’m an owner operator. Do I need a drug and alcohol testing program?

Yes, the Department of Transportation specifically states that all drivers with a CDL must participate in a random drug and alcohol testing consortium, regardless of whether you are an owner operator or are employed by a company.

How do I get started with a compliant, DOT drug testing program?

USS Screening Solutions makes it simple for new clients to get started with our drug testing consortium. Simply consult with us about the  appropriate products from our Services Page, pay with our secure checkout, and within three business days you will receive an enrollment packet. All participating employees may then proceed to one of our 10,000 testing facilities to complete their pre employment test. Once the tests are complete, your company will be a fully-compliant DOT drug testing program.

How long does an employee have to complete a test after being notified?

Once notified of the requirement for testing, DOT drug testing requirements state that the employee must proceed immediately to a testing facility to be tested.

What do I do about audits and annual reports?

USS Screening Solutions makes annual reporting and potential audits a smooth process for all clients. By enrolling in our DOT drug testing consortium, clients have a support system and organization of all necessary documentation including: policies, test results, enrollment records, MIS reports, and all other forms.

When can I expect test results?

Return results on tests can vary based on the type of test and the results. Alcohol test results can be immediately printed out onsite at the approved testing facility. For DOT drug testing, negative results can be recorded and reported via our secure channels within two to three business days. If the initial drug test is positive, the medical review officer will first contact the employee to see if there is a legitimate medical reason for the positive before determining if the test results are positive.
